Snapshot into the Life of Laine

I’m having that old problem of nothing to blog about again. Any ideas? If you don’t start suggesting things, I’ll be forced to rehash cute dog antics throughout the week. I'm just warning you, I never run out of dog related topics to talk about.

For today, I’m just taking a census of my life at a glance. I've seen a few other bloggers do this recently and it's a great filler for in between blog worthy life events.

Reading: A Game of Thrones.
Finally. It was a long time coming and a bit slow to start, but I’m finally hitting my stride. It’s a monster of a novel.  I’ve been reading about 50 pages a day for the past week, and my Kindle laughs when it tells me I am only 11% through the massive book. In times like these, I really miss paperbacks. At least then I know exactly how slowly I'm progressing.

Watching: X Factor USA, even though it represents everything that is wrong with American music. Sometimes it’s just fun to heckle.
Also, Top Gear reruns are always on the agenda. Jonathan loves that I watch a car show with him.
Car show? It’s straight up brilliant British comedy, which is pretty hard to come by. But I’ll let him believe that I’m really into cars. It’s gives me some bargaining weight when I force Season 2 of Downton Abbey down his throat. Will Mary accept Cousin Matthew’s proposal? The suspense is killing me!
Listening to: Taylor Swift’s Red. Oh Taylor, I think in another life we could have been besties. You hear me Taylor? I think we might actually be soul mates. I'm not kidding. She just transports me back to my glory days as a 19 year old sorority girl and I can’t get enough. Seriously, the album has been on repeat for the past 3 weeks. I listen to it while I run. While I scrub toilets. Walk Samson. Write Blogs. Okay, I might have a slight Taylor Swift obsession. But seriously, listen to this :

“Loving him is like trying to change your mind once you’re already flying through the free fall. Like the colors in Autumn so bright just before they lose it all.” How beautiful is that? Sing it, girl!

Loathing: Paying for parking everywhere I go. There is something unethical about charging patrons to park at a shopping mall...even worse at a park!
It wasn't me, I swear!!!!
 Loving: Autumn.
I am even more obsessed with the Fall colors than I am with Miss Swift. I honestly just walk around bug eyed and exclaiming “Isn’t it just the most beautiful thing you have ever seen?”. I probably said that one sentence twenty times while walking through Counstesswells the other day. Finally Jonathan snapped and said “Yes, it’s pretty, okay? Get over it!”

Missing: Netflix. For reals. We looked into signing up for Lovefilm, but opted not to when we realized we hadn’t even heard of half the TV shows available and they seem to have an obsession with Grey’s Anatomy, which we do not share.

Craving: Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies. My friend Nary made some for our Clachnaben hike and I have been drooling over them ever since. Unfortunately, canned pumpkin is pretty hard to find in Scotland so I have to live without.

Praying: For quick, uncomplicated deliveries for my two dear friends who are very pregnant.

Studying: Beth Moore’s James: Mercy Triumphs bible study.
My favorite verse this week is: "My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." James 1:19. It's mighty convicting since I tend to be a bit self-centered most of the time. Anyway, back to me...

Learning: Italian. My friend Falene let me borrow a whole bunch of Italian language learning tools, including Rosetta Stone. Hopefully I’ll be able to learn the basics in the next month, so that way I have the communication skills of a 3 year old by the time we get to Italy.  I hope they cover the vocabulary words for Pizza, gelato, wine, and bathroom in the first lesson. Priorities, right?
Snacking: On lots and lots of Satsumas.

Planning: A romantic winter getaway in Italia with my main squeeze.

Dreaming: Of permanent residency…Part of the reason I walk around bug eyed all the time is because I know that our time in Scotland is temporary. It breaks my heart to know that I will one day have to leave this place behind.
Now it's your turn. What's a snapshot of your life look like?

  2. Just finished reading "Cutting for Stone" Fantastic author, extremely well written and woven. The story was not my cup of tea, but then historical fiction never seems to be. I think you would like it!

I love when your blog posts share the difference between American and Scottish every day life. Like, working European appliances, driving, grocery shopping, etc. Don't know if you have any stories on that as of late

    Thanks for your prayers! xoxo

  3. The pictures are beautiful. Remember a time when I sent you a bunch of pictures of the River Dee when we first arrived in Scotland and your comment was "really Mom" how many pictures do you need of the same river. Now, I think you know why. We have our pool table in place and I have actually played a few games with your Dad. Re-patriating can be fun and I look forward to a day when you do the same!!! Miss you much

  4. Snapshot= Usually trying to figure out to do with the 18 month old, which usually involves snacks, which is fine by me :) I agree with JScott in that I'm interested in hearing about the day to day things that are different, even though you probably don't think that's interesting anymore, but I find the differences really interesting! And the beautiful photos are amazing!!
