Bump Day: 29 weeks!

Hello friends. Today marks the start of my 29th week of pregnancy. My bump feels outrageously big, and I seriously cannot fathom that it still has miles to grow before this baby is fully cooked.
I think that my petite frame makes the baby bump size feel more dramatic. I had my first prenatal class this past Sunday, and was the only shorty in the group. Even though I had the latest due date, I felt like my bump was one of the largest, beaten only by a girl in her 31st week that was carrying twins.

I’m okay with it as of now, since I feel like it’s still in its ‘cute’ stage and I don’t have any stretch marks as of yet (at least not on my belly- my hips and thighs are a different story…). But at the rate this baby is growing, I’m a bit anxious to see what I’ll look like 11 weeks from now, if I’m lucky enough to make it that far along.

I’m starting to feel more lethargic as the days go by and I’m not nearly as gung ho about exercising every day. I feel like I have a finite amount of energy to expend on a daily basis, and sometimes an hour long workout just doesn’t make the cut.

Still, our prenatal instructor reminded us that you wouldn’t run a marathon without training ahead of time, and since labor requires the same strength and stamina, why would we spend the 9 months prior falling out of shape? Um, because we’re enormous and tired and there is a tiny human pushing against our bladder and lungs…but other than that, I think it’s a great point.

I should probably stop blogging and go for a jog, especially since for the first time since conceiving, I’m entertaining the idea of natural childbirth. Epidural is still my official ‘birth plan’, but in Aberdeen, you need to have about 4 back up plans in case an anesthesiologist is unavailable or you’re turned away from the hospital despite being dangerously close to birthing a baby. True stories. I'd say there is a bit of a short staff problem here, but that's just me...

Jillian stepped in as photographer this week since Jonathan was unavailable. Thanks friend! The pictures were taken in the noonday sun which is why they are a little bit bright.

P.S. I don't know how much longer this dress will accommodate my growing bump. It's getting pretty short....

  1. You're on the home stretch! I think you look amazing!

Props to you for working out as much as you do. You're way farther ahead than I was! Keep it up. You'll be glad you did. But, don't feel bad about not doing as much. You're energy just gets shot.

Birthing here isn't as scary as you think in your head I promise. I remember hearing how things were done and declaring, "That's archaic!!" Hindsight, I am very glad I did it this way. I like that I allowed my body to do what it was supposed to and now I know what to look forward to for next time. You'll be just fine.

If you have any questions about how things are actually done here. Let me know. I remember hearing a million different things and not knowing what was going to happen.

    1. I'd love to talk to you about your experience! I feel like I hear so many horror stories, it would be nice to hear a positive perspective for a change:)

  2. Maybe you could sew another stripe on the bottom of your dress to make it a bit longer :) Totally kidding! I think that you and the dress are going to make it to 40wks no problem. Sending positive vibes your way for whichever birthing plan you decide on!!

  3. Good Morning Laine. This is from good ole Puxico, Missouri and today I'll make a trek back to the big city suburbs of St. Louis. I don't like being homeless, but have two more weeks to go before heading for final destination of Christwood. Wish me luck. I dread orientation to Christwood, but prefer that to being pregnant except that I wouldn't have your interesting blog and cute wayof complaining if I hadn't ever experienced pregnancy. Continue to grow that little fellow because he'll be one of your great delights in a few short weeks. I can hardly wait for a shot of him outside of protective custody 9f the "bump". I wonder why my generation never used that descriiption.
    Love you! Maw Maw
